About Origin of One

Origin of One is a nonprofit community designed to acquire and steward land and resources in a way that supports stability, cultural preservation, and real-world self-sufficiency. We use “citizenship” as a membership term because we believe a healthy community functions like a nation — with shared values, shared responsibility, and a shared future.

Geechee–Gullah–centered: Our cultural north star is the living heritage of the Lowcountry Sea Islands and coastal communities—language respect, land stewardship, foodways, craft, and intergenerational learning. Centering culture means protecting dignity, consent, and accuracy.

Our focus

  • Land stewardship: protect land for community use, food, housing, and cultural activity.
  • Resource pooling: reduce duplicate expenses by sharing tools, vehicles, and infrastructure.
  • Culture preservation: teach skills, history, and traditions through practice and mentoring.
  • Mutual aid: emergency support and practical help during hardship.

What we are not

  • We are not a sovereign state, and we do not replace anyone’s legal citizenship.
  • We do not offer legal or tax advice; donors and members should consult qualified professionals.
  • We do not promise financial outcomes — we build practical systems and shared support.
